HOW DO YOU
DESIGN
A RUIN?

Two monumental axial walls divide public and restricted spaces. The institution presents agricultural progress while concealing systems of institutional control.

Maize sits at the center of that tension. It is an agricultural resource, a political instrument, and a history withheld from the public gallery.

03.1 / Site + Threshold

PUBLIC FACE.
PRIVATE SYSTEM.

The intervention threads into the decommissioned power-station landscape. A public route runs beside research, cultivation, storage, and the seed vault, always negotiating what is visible and what is withheld.

03.2 / Plan + Section

THE WALLS
DRAW THE LINE.

Plans and sections make the division legible at every scale: a monumental civic front on one side, a calibrated apparatus of seed research and control on the other.

03.3 / Architecture Across Time

NOT JUST TO STAND.
BUT TO CHANGE.

Across approximately 150 years, cultivation leads to fracture, collapse, and abandonment. As architecture becomes ruin, its concealed control over seed is exposed and reclaimed by the community.

Cultivation → fracture → collapse → abandonment → reclamation

03.4 / Two Futures

2025
↘ 2125

The same routes are shown before and after collapse. Intact walls frame institutional authority; a century later, broken planes become paths, clearings, and a commons.

03.5 / Ruin Model

MATERIAL
AS FORECAST.

The physical model holds two conditions at once: the authority of a finished institution and the instability of a structure anticipating its own collapse.

03.6 / Concealed Construction

THE WALL
IS A CLOCK.

The technical assemblies bind the political narrative to construction. Each detail anticipates how the institute will weather, fracture, and fail.

Technical section / axial wall assembly

The institute is designed not just to stand, but to change.

As architecture becomes ruin, an institution of control is transformed into one of reconciliation.
